Diesel Technology: Prepping for Success

You fix things – you always have. It’s not just a passion; it’s who you are. Being the vessel to bridge the gap between natural talent and trained professional – well, that’s who we are.

At J-Tech, we believe in you and your ability. Our Diesel Technology program isn’t just designed to teach you the basics and send you stumbling; our goal is to ensure you’re equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed and excel in the industry.

In addition to earning an Occupational Associate Degree (OAD), graduates of our Diesel Technology program receive the knowledge and skills necessary to pass the Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification test. More than just a fancy name, the ASE certification is revered by many in the industry. In fact, manufacturers and facilities alike view it as the benchmark of technical knowledge. In such a competitive industry, employers are looking at more than just skills to filter prospective employees. In short, it’s one exam you want to pass.

When it comes to the maintenance and repair of light, medium, and heavy-duty trucks, a solid understanding of diesel engines is a necessity. Through a combination of classroom and laboratory settings, students will learn how to diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair these vehicles including: electronic/electrical systems; heating, ventilation, and air conditioning; suspension and steering; brakes; and drive train components that include transmissions and axles. Diesel Technology students are also trained in preventative maintenance inspection.

Our labs afford students the opportunity to use cutting-edge equipment including a computerized automotive information system, a four-wheel computerized alignment machine, a brake lathe, an articulating arm tire machine, diagnostic computer scanners, fuel injection test equipment, electronic circuit testing tools and meters, an exhaust gas analyzer, specialized automatic transmission tools, a computerized wheel balancer, lab scopes, basic engine testing tools, and air conditioning charging and recovery equipment.

In approximately 91 credits, graduates will be prepared for a career in the diesel engine repair industry. While these sought-after skills mesh seamlessly with semi-tractors and diesel powered automobiles, they can also be applied to power-generating marine and farm equipment and heavy-construction equipment.

A career as a diesel technician or mechanic is filled with possibilities. Learn more about our Diesel Technology program here at J-Tech and find out how you can turn your passion into your everyday life – and get paid for it. Contact us now for more information or to get started.
