Juneteenth

Juneteenth – Campus Closed June 19th

Juneteenth, observed annually on June 19, commemorates the day in 1865 when news of emancipation finally reached enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued. The day marks an important milestone in American history and serves as a celebration of freedom, resilience, and progress.

Today, Juneteenth is recognized as a federal holiday and is observed through community events, educational programs, cultural celebrations, and opportunities for reflection. It is a time to honor the contributions of African Americans throughout our nation’s history and to recognize the ongoing pursuit of equality and opportunity for all.
