Whether you’ve completed your training program, are gearing up for graduation or have opted instead for work experience, the ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certification test is the next natural step for your career.
Maybe you’ve thought about skipping this part; after all, who wants to take another test? Flick that cartoon devil off your shoulder and listen up: this is one exam you’ll want to conquer.
The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence is an independent, non-profit organization that has been challenging automotive professionals since 1972. ASE certification not only provides the recognition you’ve worked so hard to earn, but it also shows repair facilities and customers that you’re knowledgeable, competent, and up-to-speed on the latest in automotive technology.
Of course, the exam itself can be challenging – generally, only 2 out of 3 people pass on their first try – but it wouldn’t provide a recognized level of excellence if it were easy, would it? No need to panic. There are plenty of ways you can prepare to ensure your best chance of acing the ASE.

With more than 40 exams written by a national panel of technicians, educators, professionals, manufacturers, and executives, ASE certification provides testing to showcase your skill set, training, and expertise.
While the questions themselves may be difficult, it’s important to remember your training. After all, the exam is designed to challenge your knowledge in a particular field – knowledge you’ve obtained through hands-on experience and training.
Prior to taking the exam, qualified applicants must complete 2 years of on-the-job training or 1 year of on-the-job training and a 2 year degree in automotive repair.
If you haven’t quite checked those boxes just yet, you may want to take a look at J-Tech’s Automotive Technology and Diesel Technology programs. Because we understand ASE certifications are recognized by many in the industry as the benchmark for technical knowledge, we’ve designed our curriculum to provide the content and skills necessary to pass the exam.
